SUMMER 2011 – “ONE SENT”

SUMMER 2011 – “ONE SENT
Focus on Obedience

After one morning Power Hour with the younger boys’ unit, a young camper sat down on the mat in front of me as the others were connecting with their cabin leaders and heading off to their next fun activity.  Packing up my props and notes, I noticed the boy and asked him if I could help him – completely forgetting that during the middle of our lesson I had given an invitation for them to stay behind if they had further questions.  “I want to accept Jesus as my Savior!” answered the ten-year-old.  “Oh sure, I can help you with that!” I said a bit startled by my “senior moment” and profoundly encouraged by the Holy Spirit’s faithfulness.

Mr D's Power Hour!

Lives are changed at Camp!  It’s not because of us, but by God using our obedience to his directive to GO into all the world and make disciples… teaching them to obey all that he as commanded us.  ONE SENT was the theme of this year’s camps – culminating subsequent summers’ teaching of the creation to the cross and last year’s lessons on the life of Christ.  Now the question was raised and answered, “How should one respond to God’s Good News?”  As a significant part of this years learning, each camper was taught the importance of choices, obedience, and response.  Every child was taught how to share the Gospel to their world (and beyond).  Now, when God asks, “Whom shall I send?”… We trust all will respond in obedience – “Here am I, send me.”

We are so thankful for all who answered God’s call to Pray, Provide, Participate, Perspire, and now to Praise Him for what He has done this summer!  Thirty-five young men and women (cabin and program leaders) lived and breathed loving service to the children!  Scores of individuals provided scholarship assistance for over 90% of our campers.  Hundreds gave their prayer, sweat and tears to enable Beechpoint to be used as a tool… a gathering point for those living as “one sent”.

Our praises include knowing that 98 children trusted Christ as Savior, 29 were compelled to renew their commitment of faith, 70 teens grew through service and leadership, and 40 young adults were able to see God’s hand work miracles!  Please continue to pray as we anticipate God growing each young life!  Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift!

- Mr D.

Here is what two campers had to say about their time at camp this summer:

“I did the go-carts and we went fishing.  I went canoeing and on a paddleboat and pontoon.  We have delicious food.  We go swimming every day and I learned Jesus died for our sins.”  - Maya, age 8

“I learned to be respectful and listen to my cabin leaders.  I learned that obeying Christ has a big effect on life.”  - Gerren, age 12

Benefit Auction 2011 Praise Report

Thank you to all who participated in our 7th Annual Benefit Auction!  With nearly 400 in attendance, it was a great day of fellowship with the Beechpoint extended family and some new friends of the ministry!

We enjoyed a great steak dinner - complete with a live band and a build-your-own ice cream sundae station.  The evening had something for everyone with many exciting raffle items, a silent auction, and great auctioneers running the live auction.  (Who took home Aunt Ruth’s pickles this year?!)

A total of $68,000 was given during this year’s auction!  Praise God for his provision through His people!  Thank you to each person who participated - your generosity overwhelms us!  Your decision to invest in the ministry of Camp Beechpoint makes it possible for us to serve under-resourced youth.  This is one camper’s testimony of how God used camp in his life:

The counselors here treat you as if you are their children.  Which in this case I love that cuz I don’t have anyone to care or pray for me back home.  It’s real heartbreaking living in the ghetto and now I know what real friendship is between me and another Christian.  Some of the older counselors, they have experience with a lot of things like manhood, and I applaud them for it.  If you want to grow in your faith you have to come here.” - boy, age 13

Please pray that God will prepare the hearts of the youth who are coming this summer - that they will be open to receive His love and Word.  Lives are changed at camp!

Spring Newsletter

Please be sure to take a look at our spring news letter for news, event accouterments, and a ministry update by Mr. D. Excerpt:

In 1963, Edward Lorenz presented a hypothesis to the New York Academy of Science. His theory, stated simply, was that: A butterfly could flap its wings and set molecules of air in motion, which would move other molecules of air, in turn moving more molecules of air eventually capable of starting a huge storm on the other side of the planet. Lorenz and his ideas were literally laughed out of the conference. What he had proposed was ridiculous. It was preposterous. But it was fascinating!

Crazy Horse Benefit a Great Success!

Wow!  What a fun night!  Thank you to everyone who stopped by to enjoy a dinner with us at the Crazy Horse Steak House!  All of us were overwhelmed by the response and by your desire to help to raise scholarship funds for camp.  It was a privilege to see so many of you - and what fun to make alot of new friends, as well.

Minature horses greated guests and provided kids with an opportunity to see eye-to-eye with these pint-sized animals.  Live entertainment set a festive mood as all of us enjoyed spectacular food and wonderful service from the restaurant staff.  Those waiting for tables enjoyed a high-light reel from Summer Camp 2010.  And all received a special invitation to come to camp for a personal visit (a great opportunity would be for the Benefit Auction on Saturday, May 7).

Special thanks goes to the generosity of the Crazy Horse ownership and staff; Wes Glass and Corky’s Pals’ Band; and our equestrian handler - Phil Plasman.  The Beechpoint Staff thanks all of you who were able to stop by - it was great to see you!
